Overprotective parents can be classified as helicopter parents. The parenting style characterised by a helicopter 🚁 like tendency to hover over children and swoop in to rescue them at the first sign of trouble , exploded into main stream consciousness in early 2000s. The helicopter parents take up too much responsibility for their children's experiences and specifically, their success and failures . It is called overparenting , it means being involved in a child's life in a way that is over controlling, over protecting and over perfecting. In helicopter parenting, the parents try to micromanage their children to give them advantage. Helicopter parents think, they are doing what is best for their kids . However, the overprotected children of such parents do not learn, how to cope up with failure . Overprotection does not develop frustration tolerance in these children. Without this psychological attribute, young people enter the work force with great disadvantage. People solve problems by trying things, making mistakes , learning and then trying again. This process builts confidence, competence and self worth. Helicopter parents prevents their children from developing all these attributes which are necessary for success in life.
